After much anticipation, Forter’s Seventh Edition Fraud Attack Index is here.  Analyzing over $140 billion in annualized e-commerce transactions, this report encapsulates the most extensive research ever conducted in this field. As the world of online commerce continues to evolve, so too do the methods by which fraudsters execute their attacks. As such, this year’s report examines how shifting e-commerce norms and growing customer expectations have impacted fraud trends over the past year, and how retailers can leverage these insights to better combat criminals in the year to come.

In Data We Trust

Forter’s robust network of data, which is used to protect over 500 million consumers globally, provides Forter with deeply unique insights into both legitimate and fraudulent behaviors across the globe.

As Forter’s depth of data increases, so too does the breadth of the report. This Index highlights a myriad of hot topics in the e-commerce industry today, examining how fraudsters are shifting their focus away from traditional point-of-transaction fraud and towards other, more vulnerable points along the customer journey, such as consumers’ accounts and loyalty points. In fact, Forter’s data reports an 89% increase in loyalty program fraud over the past year, and a 12% increase in the total dollar amount of all online fraud.

A Global Perspective

For the first time, this report also takes a deep dive into fraud around the world, providing data from the European and Asia/Pacific markets, demonstrating how fraud trends and behaviors manifest in various parts of the world. Whereas merchants have dismissed whole regions in the past due to fear of fraud, these areas actually represent the potential of growing and burgeoning markets with untapped revenue from legitimate customers. With more in-depth data and a deeper understanding into the behaviors of global consumers, businesses can begin to leverage technology to expand seamlessly into these new markets.

Forter’s Seventh Edition Fraud Attack Index aims to arm merchants and their businesses with the information needed to stop fraudsters and protect the customer journey, without added friction. For a deep dive into this comprehensive data, download the full report here.
